Description

Late 2nd-early 1st millennium BC. A group of ten bronze arrowheads with five main deltoid forms, three large bronze elongated triangular arrowheads with rounded or angular raised midrib, sharp central groove, barbed shoulders and convex sides; a single form with a sharp flat barbed blade and prominent midrib extending in a long tang; another single form with no barbs, but prominent midrib extending to a long tang; four bronze tanged forms with straight shoulders, strong rounded, projecting midrib tapering towards the point, cylindrical stem with handle for the shaft; finally a massive leaf-shaped and barbed arrowhead. See for similar arrowheads Muscarella, O.W., Bronze and Iron Ancient Near Eastern Artifacts in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1988, pp.289ff.; cf. Khorasani, M.M., Arms and Armour from Iran. The Bronze Age to the End of the Qajar Period, Tübingen, 2006, items 463,467, for type. 254 grams total, 10-17.7cm (4 - 7"). Ex Abelita family collection, 1980-2015. A large number of these arrowheads have been excavated in the Northern Iranian Plateau, in Luristan and in the South-Caspian region. Three arrowheads seem to belong to the category with rounded or triangular midrib, but subtype C, i.e. large triangular arrowheads with barbed shoulders. Four arrowheads could be ascribed to type V, subtype D, of the Khorasani classification, comprising triangular arrowheads with lanceolate shape and rounded midrib. The straight shoulders recall a Marlik typology (see Khorasani, 2006, p.307, fig.379"). [10] Condition Report Fine condition.
