A group of two Anglo-Scandinavian bronze stirrup mounts, each comprising a trapezoidal body with two arms, two rivet holes, each with one remaining rivet, each front face decorated with two raised ribs tapering towards one end creating three sections with vertical columns of raised dashed lines. Cf. The Portable Antiquities Scheme Database, id. LEIC-8D1AC0 and LEIC-8C54F0, for these objects, dated 1000-1100 AD; cf. Williams, D., Late Saxon Stirrup Strap mounts: a classification and catalogue: a contribution to the study of Late Saxon ornamental metalwork, Council for British Archaeology, 1998, p.82, fig.379, for similar. 32.1 grams total, 39mm each (1 1/2"). Found whilst searching with a metal detector in Peckleton, Leicestershire, UK, by Robert Ward; accompanied by a copy of Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) report numbers LEIC-8D1AC0 and LEIC-8C54F0. Both of the associated PAS entries state: 'noted as an interesting find by the recorder.' [2, No Reserve] Condition Report Fair condition, apexe loops absent.
