10th-11th century AD. A gold pendant with wire loop and shank, sheet-gold sleeve with circular garnet crystal. See for similar pendants with garnet forming a necklace Romisch-Germanischen Zentralmuseum Mainz (RGZM), Das Reich der Salier, 1024-1125, Sigmaringen, 1992, pp.268ff. 0.59 grams, 15mm (1/2"). Ex important Japanese collection of jewellery, 1970s-2010. Among the treasures of the Salic Emperors (1024-1125 AD) there are also necklaces made of gold chains and jewels worked with precious stones and gems inserted inside the settings. To these chains are attached gold pendants supported by rings, similar in shape to our object. Such collars, which were worn by the Germanic princesses, imitated the maniakia worn around the neck by the Roman princesses at Constantinople. Condition Report Fine condition.
