13th-14th century AD. A bronze horse harness decoration composed of an articulate heater-shaped shield pendant bearing the royal arms- three lions passant gardant gilded (or) on a red (gules) field, suspended on a roughly round-section hanger with attachment lug to one end and two pairs of rounded suspension lugs at the other, remains of gilding. 9.42 grams, 28mm (1"). Found Gloucestershire, UK. The royal arms of England were gules, three lions passant gardant or from 1198 AD to 1340 AD and again from 1360 AD to 1369 AD; from 1340-1360 under King Edward III they were quartered with the arms of France Azure semé of fleurs-de-lys or and this style continued until 1395 AD. The pendant probably dates from early in the 14th century. Condition Report Fine condition.
