Joaquín Peinado, Spanish 1898-1975- Composition, 1950; oil on canvas, signed and dated 50 lower right, 27x45cm (ARR) Provenance: Gift from Peinado to the current owner's father in the early 1960s. Note: Joaquín Peinado was a Spanish artist whose work occupies a significant place in the development of 20th-century European art. Peinados work connects him with the most important figures in modern art, as is demonstrated by the present piece. This work reveals the influence of artists such as Paul Cézanne, alongside closer contemporaries like Pablo Picasso. This is evident both in its subject matter and in its style, with Peinados use of highly geometric forms to flatten the visual plane in a mundane still life serving to challenge conventional concepts of representation, and the human capacity for perception. Peinados technique also recalls other post-Impressionist artists, such as Paul Gauguin, illustrating his central position in the story of artistic development in 20th-century Europe. Peinados significance is demonstrated by the fact that a museum dedicated to his work has been established in his home town of Ronda in Málaga. Please refer to department for condition report
