Superbly enamelled, the present vase exhibits some of the finest elements of early Ming dynasty cloisonné enamel: a substantial bronze body, with heavy gilding framing the rims; a colour scheme of blue, red, yellow and white reserved on a turquoise ground; and decorative motifs of a slightly more rounded lotus scroll, which was a style inherited from its Yuan dynasty predecessors.
