Early Ming Dynasty The compressed globular body rising to a tall cylindrical neck and set with a pair of tubular handles, the exterior decorated in blue, red, white, white, green and yellow enamels against a turquoise ground with lotus and flower scrolls. 13.7cm (5 3/8in) high. 注脚 明早期 銅胎掐絲琺瑯纏枝蓮紋貫耳瓶 Provenance: An important European private collection Exhibited: Museum fur Kunsthandwerk, Frankfurt, 2 April – 28 June, 1981. Published and Illustrated: G.G.Avitabile, Die Ware aus dem Teufelsland, Chinesische und japanische Cloisonné – und Champlevé-Arbeiten von 1400 bis 1900, Germany, 1981, no.6. 6。 The form of the present vase is inspired by Song dynasty ceramics; see for example a ge-ware 'arrow' vase, Song dynasty (11.3cm high), in the Qing Court Collection, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Porcelain of the Song Dynasty (II), Hong Kong, 1996, pl.37. Superbly enamelled, the present vase exhibits some of the finest elements of early Ming dynasty cloisonné enamel: a substantial bronze body, with heavy gilding framing the rims; a colour scheme of blue, red, yellow and white reserved on a turquoise ground; and decorative motifs of a slightly more rounded lotus scroll, which was a style inherited from its Yuan dynasty predecessors. A closely related example of a cloisonné enamel 'arrow' vase, first half of the 15th century, is illustrated by H.Brinker and A.Lutz, Chinesisches Cloisonné: Die Sammlung Pierre Uldry, Zurich, 1984, pl.17. For several other examples of cloisonné enamel 'arrow' vases, early Ming dynasty, measuring 11.5-14.6cm high, see Zheng Xinmiao, ed., Compendium of Collections in the Palace Museum: Enamels 1, Cloisonné in the Yuan (1271-1368) and Ming (1368-1644) Dynasties, Beijing, 2011, pls.67; and B.Quette, ed., Cloisonné: Chinese Enamels from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties, New York, 2011, pls.13 and 20. A related but slightly smaller (12.3cm high) cloisonné enamel arrow vase, Xuande, was sold at Sotheby's New York, 15-16 September 2015, lot 165. 北京故宮亦藏有一件明代銅胎掐絲琺瑯長頸貫耳瓶,見《故宮博物院藏品大系:琺瑯器編1,元明掐絲琺瑯》,北京,2011年,圖67;另見兩例,於B.Quette著,《Cloisonné: Chinese Enamels from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties》,紐約,2011年,圖13及20。紐約蘇富比曾售出一例,時代定為明宣德,2015年9月15-16日,編號165。
