Wall object, green stained wood. The Munich artist Werner Mally is known for disassembling a tree trunk into individual parts or bringing it to a new dynamic form. Through his tool, the chain saw, the shape of the tree trunk is changed, but nothing of substance is lost. Werner Mally works entirely according to Aristotle's well-known phrase "The whole is more than the sum of its parts". However, he reinterprets the final work of art. Daylight plays a major role, as it strongly influences the spatial effect created by the artwork and is part of the overall impression.The artist Werner Mally creates new groups of wooden sculptures, which are summarised under the name "Helix" (winding, spiral). The material, the closeness to the trunk, the simplicity or at the same time the complexity of the form and the content, the visible movement in the interplay with the stillness, the surface and the space and last but not least the light and the shadow characterise the speciality of the Helix. An inner potential for movement and dynamism is activated by the spiral cut into the trunk and also the drying process of the wood. As a result, the sculptures expand in different directions and twist several times. This leads to an unknown spring potential. The whole appearance of the sculpture creates space and thus linear movement through its twisting and rotation. A line seems to run through the sculpture. The artwork group Helix has become a new format in the sculptural world. Through the artist's idea, the unusual material, the visibly executed minimalism, the artwork develops a new visual experience in the viewer.
