Description

An assembled grouping of (8) English silver plates. (2) plates bear different English hallmarks stamped verso, (1) plate bears partial Irish hallmarks stamped verso, and (5) plates bear illegible partial English hallmarks stamped verso. (7) plates are etched verso with what are believed to be inventory numbers. Each plate bears the House of Cholmondeley coat of arms with a coronet, supported by a griffin and a wolf, with the Latin motto below "Cassis Tutissima Virtus" (Virtue is the Safest Helmet), and the Latin motto "Tria juncta in uno" (Three Joined In One) central. The First English Silver plate bears a city mark of London, maker's mark of John Parker II? or John Prosser?, and a date letter of 1806. The second English silver plate bears a city mark of London, maker's mark of Daniel Piers, and a date letter of 1756. The third Irish silver plate bears partial hallmarks with only a city stamp of Dublin being identifiable. Total approx. weight of all plates is 139.36 troy oz (gross). From an E 72nd St, Manhattan estate. Dimensions: plates measure approx. 9.75" in diameter. Condition Report Good with light surface scratches and minor dings/dents.
