款识：“钱氏私宝”四字双行篆书款 |说明：该件作品以端石为材，仿铜镜的形制精心雕就，砚背平整，可见端石色泽紫黑，质地细腻。正面采用高浮雕技法琢三层纹饰，纹饰之间以绳纹相隔，起圆钮为中心，其上暗刻“钱氏私宝”篆书印款，四周琢制海兽纹，海兽姿态各异，气势汹涌，翻腾于海水之中，外围亦雕海兽纹一周，砚缘则饰卷草纹。整器造型古朴沉稳，包浆厚重，设计新颖，构思巧妙，纹饰层次分明，雕刻精细，远远观之，与唐代海兽纹铜镜形制无差。带有原配紫檀木圆盒，做工极佳，起线精致，表面可见紫檀木牛毛纹理丝丝密密，华美大方，与砚石相得益彰。
