Militaria , World War 2 / WWII / Second World War : the wartime photograph album of Matrose Wilhelm Schonberger , a sailor aboard the Kriegsmarine capital battleship Scharnhorst. Containing 142 monochrome photographs depicting the ship and its company, British shipping having been damaged and sinking (including HMS Glorious), the Scharnhorst's captain Komandant Kurt Caesar Hoffmann with Admiral Gunther Lutjens, Admiral Otto Schniewind, together with depictions of Arado seaplanes, uboats, torpedoes being launched and the ship's guns firing. On December 26th 1943, the Scharnhorst was sunk by the Royal Navy off Norway during the Battle of North Cape, with just 36 survivors.
