A Japanese satsuma ware baluster vase by Yabu Meizan (1853-1934), Meiji period, 1868-1912, finely decorated in raised gilt and polychrome enamels with an opening serpentine collar of chrysanthemum, the main vessel with an extensive lake scene with sailing boats, fishing boat, figure fishing, man with a horse and pagodas against a mountainous backdrop over a broad floral panelled base, signed to the base with a raised gilt seal signature, height 17cm. Note: born in Nagahori, Osaka in 1853, Yabu Meizan is a celebrated artist known for his intricately decorated Satsuma ware primarily for the export market. He opened his workshop in Osaka in 1880 and today is widely regarded as the 'Prince' of the medium. Notes Oriental - Ceramics
