此件笔筒以紫檀制，形器硕大，甚为难得，平沿平底，厚壁。外壁瘿结累累，高低起伏，疏密得体，仿若奇木浑然天成，颇具天然意趣。其质坚实厚重，历经岁月，包浆莹润。此器有自然天成之趣，置于几案，实用之余，如同置老树槎根于案头，宛若将自然之韵融入书斋，有古朴清雅之韵，体现主人追求自然返璞的天成之境。明清之际，文人崇尚天然之趣，喜以自然形象制作文房器，于简约中彰显雅兴，蔚为一时风尚。
