A SAMURAI SWORD, WAKIZASHI Japan, Possibly 18th to 19th century Blade description: - Tsukurikomi (shape): shinogi zukuri (four sides), hiro mune (two-side back), ubu nakago (the length of the blade is original, i.e. not shortened); - Nagasa (length of the blade): 50cm - Haba (thickness of the blade): 0.7cm - Sori (curve of the blade): 1.3cm - Ji hada (steel grain): itame-hada (resembling a wooden board) - Hamon (temper line): O Choji Ha - Boshi (return of the temper line to the blade type): ko maru (small and round) - Period: possibly 18th to 19th century. Mount description (koshirae): With a dark brown lacquered wooden scabbard (saya)i, signed on the place of the Kozuka (small knife) Mitsu together with a Kakiha. The scabbard is adorned with rain dragons and with a gilt-lacquered heraldic crest (mon) depicting two chidori birds with bamboo, i.e. the one of Clan Date, Daimyo of Yoshida in the Iyo Province.
