TWO YELLOW EARTHENWARE ‘HARE’S FUR’ DISHES
China, Liao Dynasty (916-1125). Each of rounded sides rising from a short ring foot to an everted lip and covered with a rich amber glaze with ochre ‘hare’s fur’ striations, stopping irregularly above the foot, revealing the reddish-buff body. The larger dish with a collector’s label ‘J.L Fischer Foundation’.
Condition: Good condition with minor wear and firing flaws, such as spur marks and associated glaze losses, a section of the foot rim lost. With few chips and glaze flakes to rims. One dish melted together with the rim of another dish.
Provenance: German private collection, acquired at Nagel Auktionen on 30.10.2013, lot 334. Previously in the collection of Jürgen L. Fischer, Ascona.
