A GLAZED CERAMIC EWER WITH MYTHYCAL ANIMALS
Southern China, Ming Dynasty or later. The finely potted body supported on a splayed foot, the sides and lower part of the spout molded in relief with a mythical animal. The curved handle shaped as a lizard biting into the upper part. Covered with brown and ochre glaze.
Condition: Good condition with expected surface wear and a chip to the base rim.
Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
