A BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN ‘DRAGON’ CUP
China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912)
The cup with rounded sides rising from a short foot and decorated in underglaze cobalt blue, depicting a wrathful dragon and a galloping horse amongst clouds and auspicious emblems, above crushing waves. An endless knot mark to the underside.
Condition: Very good condition with expected wear, firing imperfections and some fritting to the foot rim.
Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. This lot was acquired by a second-generation member of the Holzapfel family and has remained in the family ever since.
