The smaller vase is Chinese and has an appealing shape and finely painted with a depiction of pine, bamboo and plum, the Suihan Sanyou or Three Friends of Winter, symbolizing steadfastness, perseverance and resilience as well as the three religions of China, and shows an inscription and a seal on the underside.
The larger vase is Japanese Satsuma ware with much gold, showing depictions of playing boys and flowers in fan-shaped and tipped reserves, and otherwise decorated with blossoms and vines.
