A BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA IN A SHRINE
Burma/Myanmar, 18th – 19th century. Consisting of two parts and cast in openwork, the lower part cast as a rectangular open-sided base supporting a standing Buddha. The upper part a multi-tiered roof showing fine openwork and undulating designs. Remains of gilding.
Condition: Good condition with traces of wear, small nicks here and there. Overall rich malachite-green patina with ochre encrustations.
Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
