A RARE SILVER MOUNTED CROCODILE SKULL SMOKER’S SET
Thailand/Siam, around 1920. Attributed to ALEX & COMPANY, BANGKOK. The crocodile skull mounted with silver elements as a smoking set. Fitted with an embossed match holder, multiple removable compartments and an ashtray. Further embellished with silver and metal repoussé mounts depicting mythical creatures in Burmese folklore and crowned with a bronze figure of a man holding a spear. With an integrated wood base.
Condition: Very good condition with expected surface wear.
Provenance: Ex-Collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
