A GOLD LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF BUDDHA
Shan states, Burma, 18th to 19th century. Seated in dhyanasana on a raised double-lotus pedestal, his right hand in bhumisparsha mudra, his left resting on his lap, the face with a gently smiling mouth, wearing an elaborate crown with flaming ornaments to each side.
Condition: One of the flaming ornaments was reattached and repaired, part of the final lacquer coat is missing, several cracks and material losses.
Provenance: From a British private collection. According to the current owner acquired from the collection of a German diplomat working in Southeast Asia, c. 1980s’.
