5th-3rd century BC. A ceramic vessel, circular in plan with a rounded base, carinated body with conical, D-section lower body and C-section upper body, domed top with shallow circumferential channel and roughly circular mouth. Cf. Sagona, C., Punic pottery from Malta held in two Atralian collectionsin Mediterranean Archaeology, vol.9/10, 1996/1997, pp.29-52, pl.15 no.3, for similar type without lid. 208 grams, 10.3cm wide (4"). English collection, 1990s. Acquired on the UK art market. Property of an Essex gentleman. The small pot shows resemblance to some Romano-Punic pottery from Malta, especially with the small c having pronounced carination and a ridge to the exterior. [No Reserve]
