A restored Samian ware bowl with hemispherical body, frieze of figures in raised relief around the lower body, those holding whips representing the lorari, others bound by rope, circumferential band of arcading above. 1.97 kg, 25cm wide (10"). From the late Alison Barker collection, a retired London barrister; from her collection formed 1960s-1990s. The Loriar would whip reluctantbatants, be they human or animal, into fighting.
