Flemish school, mid-17th century. "Jes before Herod". Oil on copper. Measurements: 44 x 54 cm; 81 x 91 cm (frame). We see in this copper the representation of Jes in the Court of Herod. The episode is narrated in the Gospel of Luke: after being judged by the Sanhedrin, Jes is sent to the Roman governor Ponti Pilate, who when he found out that he was a Galilean understood that the case would be under the jurisdiction of Herod Antipas. The architectural background, based on steps, marble columns and arches, organises the space in which the figures interact with each other to form dynamic gro.
