A MOTTLED PALE CELADON JADE ‘MONKEY AND PEACH’ FIGURE, 17TH - 18TH CENTURY
China. A humorous scene with a monkey holding an oversized peach, rising from gnarled leafy branches. The expressive face with bulging eyes and wrinkled forehead. The body with neatly incised ears and ribs, and a protruding spine. The stone of a pale celadon color with light and dark brown mottled areas.
Provenance: From a reputed French private collection.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, minuscule nicks, a natural fissure on the upper part of the peach.
