One of the conapts came from Krafft Ehricke, the assistant to technical director at Convair, the division of the General Dynamics Corporation. Ehricke proposed that the Atlas Intercontinental Ballistic Missile could be developed to be adapted as the space station's basic structure. Ehicke drafted plans for a four-persons space station which could provide capability for a long-term human existence in space. John Sentovic (b. 1924) was amercial illtrator and an author of many, then considered futuristic, artistic renditions of NASA's space projects. His works were published in many press publications including Life Magazine amongst others.
