Titled "Responding to a Summons from Yan Qushui, Iposed a Poem", the text is preserved in the earlypendium the Wenxuan , and it is one of only twenty-four of Yan Yanzhi's poems that is extant today. Although the poem itself harkens back to antiquity, the artist's calligraphic style is based on Zhou dynasty seal script, the forms imitating a style eight hundred years older than the poem.
