A Chinese gilt bronze statue of Green Tara dating from the 18th century. She sits in a relaxed pose on a double lotus pedestal. Her right hand rests on her leg with palm up in the gesture of supreme generosity, while her left hand is raised near her heart in the gesture of bestowing refuge. Two lotuses flank her shoulders, and a celestial shawl wraps around her. Tara wears a dhoti with incised borders as well as extensive jewelry inset with precious stones. Her hair is styled into a tall knot with curls on the front. Dimensions are: 4 3/4 inches tall X 3 1/4 inches long X 3 inches wide, 12.1 cm X 8.3 cm X 7.6 cm. Weight: 442 grams. All measurements are approximate. Condition: There are multiple areas of repair, including to the precious stones, some of which have been replaced. The lotus on the front of the pedestal is missing.
