Two Japanese Lacquer Inro19TH CENTURYthe large a four-case example, decorated in gold hiramaki-e with shell inlays showing figures at various tasks, the interior of nashiji lacquer, together with a metal square ojime and a carved wood netsuke in the form of a monkey hugging a gourd; the smaller a five-case example, decorated in gold, black and colored hiramaki-e and enashiji showing a tsuzumi, a fan and a  hat amongst prunus blossoms, all set on a kinji ground, the interior of nashiji lacquer, together with a reticulated gilt bronze ojime and a carved boxwood netsuke in the shape of lotus leaf; both unsigned. Length of larger 3 1/8 in., 7.9 cm.
