此黄杨木如意设计特殊，极富巧思，以两株菜蔬长茎向绕为柄，叶片舒张翻折，脉纹清晰，而曲卷的菜叶中，藏有一螽斯。螽斯形象鲜活的，细节雕刻一丝不苟，活灵活现，如闻秋声。《诗经•周南•螽斯》：「螽斯羽，诜诜兮，宜尔子孙，振振兮。」而后方的叶茎上，更雕刻有甲虫随后，整体寓意有，螽斯衍庆，多子多孙，富甲天下的美好祝愿。
作品与台北故宫博物院典藏国宝－翠玉白菜，概念极为相近，可供参照。
