PROVENANCE: Jim Francis (Dec 24, 1944 - June 14, 2018) Resident of the Atlanta Metro area for numerous years.Jim Francis was a true scholar having a degree in English. His early career started as a professor at a community college in Kentucky. During the Vietnam era, he became an instructor for the US Air Force. When computers were first becoming popular Jim became a software engineer which lead him to a career in being a method analyst for a major hospital group. While working with Doctors from different cultures Jim became an avid collector of Chinese items, Measurements: Height: 12 3/8" Width: 7 3/4" Depth: 5 1/2" , Weight: 706 g (each) Pair of Chinese jade carved rectangular table screens resting in fitted hardwood frame stands. Incredibly carved details depicting a gorgeous view spanned across the screens with beautiful trees and mountain landscape. Shows group of figurines and animals amongst the natural and graceful scenery. Jade is a light milky color with a moist shinning appearance. Displayed in elaborately carved hardwood adorned with open-works scrolling rococo motif, formed by two scrolled feet, from which rise vertical posts flanked on either side above patterned lappets apron. LOT NOTES:Jade, as a stone, has five virtues. Its glossiness and warmth is like benevolence. Because inside and outside is the same, so that knowing the outside one knows the inside, this may be likened to righteousness. Its far-reaching sound (when struck) may be heard from afar, like wisdom. It is not easily bent, but can be broken, which may be likened to courage. Jade relates to such virtues as benevolence, wisdom, righteousness, propriety, loyalty, and trustworthiness, and it also corresponds to the ways of the heaven and earth.
