He is one of themanders who won and ended the Napoleonic Wars when the coalition defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.Wellesley was born in Dublin into Protestant ancestry in Ireland. He wasmissioned as an ensign in the British army in 1787, serving in Ireland as aide-de-camp to two successive Lord Lieutenants of Ireland. He was also elected Member of Parliament in the Irish House ofmons. He became a colonel in 1796 and saw action in the Netherlands and in India, where he fought in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War at the Battle of Seringapatam. He was appointed governor of Seringapatam and Mysore in 1799 and, as a newly appointed major general, won a decisive victory over the Maratha Confederacy at the Battle of Assaye in 1803.Salvador Dunchen was a renowned gilder, who worked for the Glass Factory and as a Royal Dissector. Dunchen was familiar with the gilding technique of Ventura Maria Sani, and on occasion was criticised for not revealing it, to which he alluded that he had introduced improvements to the craft. In 1805, due to disagreements with the director of the Royal Factory, Dunchen, he left the Factory, and years later began to work as a dissector in the Royal Cabinet of Natural History. In 1815 he was appointed a member of the Real Sociedad Económica Matritense de Amigos del País. He also worked as a teacher at the school of dissection and ornamental drawing in Madrid.
