Black marble pedestal.Measurements: 72,5 x 33 x 52 cm; 127 x 32 x 36 cm (base).The bust of a gentleman, dressed in 19th century fashion and with a haircut of the same date, stands on a black marble pedestal with white veins, with a moulded finish of classical inspiration. The author presents a bust that starts from a cylindrical foot, which supports the torso of the main figure. He is dressed in what appears to be a buttoned frock coat, which opens at the chest, revealing a waistcoat and a large scarf around his neck, which is finished off with a bow. The sitter's facial features, although somewhat idealised, as they are symmetrical and form a harmonious whole, have a certain degree of realism, which can be deduced from the treatment of the chin and the prominent nose. As for the hair, which follows the precepts of the fashion of the time, its arrangement lends a certain dynamism and spontaneity to the sitter. The sitter, who stands erect before the viewer, shows an authoritative gesture, and with his mouth half-open, it seems that he is trying to convey a few words to the viewer, thus adding liveliness to the cold material from which this work is made. The white marble of the sculpture isbined with the black of the base, giving rise to a sculpture that stands out for its quality and expressive colour.This type of work is inspired by those made during the Renaissance and Baroque periods, especially in Italy. These were based on those of the Roman Emperors, found in the Italian capital itself, in which different marbles werebined, but without such a high contrast.
