A large Mamluk pottery vase, Syria, 14th century, on a flat circular base, widening towards the shoulder, narrowing at the neck, with rounded rim, underglaze painted in blue and black on a white stonepaste body, the lower section with vertical bands outlined in black and containing cobalt dots, the shoulder with alternating black and blue chevron design the neck with one and possibly two inserted fragments, one with blazon on a black striped ground, the other with black dot and stripe motifs 27.7cm. high For a similar chevron pattern on a Mamluk dish in the Al Sabah Collection, Kuwait (LNS 253C) see O.
