此砚滴造型艺术性颇高，作辟邪伏身昂首，似在沐浴春日暖阳，静谧生动，神形备至。背部开孔，硕腹中空以贮水，用时将水以唇部通孔滴注汲出，滴于砚以研墨。
辟邪式砚滴极流行于明代，除铜质作品外，尚见有玉器、瓷器之类。整器造型完美，符合法度，在上追高古青铜器古朴浑厚气息的同时，又融入明代文房用具儒雅的气息，即若去其砚滴之功用亦不失为案头清供美品。
