Oil on canvas scene shows the steam sidewheeler on calm water flying American flag off back flagpole. A tent encampment is seen off the bow and military men are seen talking at the stern. Signed “R H Weir” lower right. The U.S.S. General Grant was a steamship chartered from the US War Dept. by the Union Navy during the American Civil War. The General Grant was used by the Navy as a gunboat in the waterways of the Confederate South. Housed in a gesso decorated gilt antique frame. SIZE: 13-1/4″ x 20-1/4″. Overall: 17″ x 24″.
