EIGHT IRON TSUBA Edo period (1615-1868), 17th to 19th century (9)EIGHT IRON TSUBAEdo period (1615-1868), 17th to 19th centuryThe first mokkogata, Heianjo-zogan type, the rim and seppadai connected by 48 radiating spokes, the rim inlaid with wave patterns in brass; the second six-lobed, pierced with cherry blossoms and a conch shell; the third circular, with a shakudo rim, pierced with two leaves and the character kotobuki, signed Bushu no ju Kunihiro saku (wood tomobako storage box dated 31 August 1965 and certified by Dr Torigoe Kazutaro); the fourth with inome piercings and stylised birds; the fifth 24-lobed, the radiating spokes with four stylised birds; the sixth circular, the rim and seppadai connected by eight pierced stylised floral motifs; the seventh circular, formed as a bundle of tokusa (scouring rush), signed Echizen no ju Kinai saku; the last oval, probably Owari type, the rim connected to the seppadai by stylised thunderflash and other motifs.
