Late Period, Ca. 664-332 BC Very finely carved, worked out of polished granite, this statuette represents a squatting hamadryas baboon, one of the forms of Thoth (the god of the moon) standing also as the god of knowledge and writing. Thoth is depicted with a long snout, strong, eternal eyes, and front paws resting comfortably on his knees.
