New Kingdom, Ca. 1550-1070 BC Carved from steatite, this seal has been intricately formed paying attention to the characteristic of the beetle, especially the cyleus, prothrax, and elytra. The flattened reverse is ornately decorated with iconic symbols. In the centre is a beetle, a symbol of rebirth and regeneration, alongside two protective wedjat-eyes, beneath, a pair of ankh symbols, signs of life and eternity. The scarab is pierced longitudinally for suspension. For similar see:The Metropolitan Museum of Art: Accession Number: 35.3.49.
