Ca. 19th - early 20th Century AD A beautiful, probably late 19th-century Hu-shaped vase, decorated with 2 scenes of figures with characters. The body is totally covered with a "Fish Roe" pattern and butterflies. There are 2 applied beast-shaped handles on the shoulders of the vase. Marked on the bottom with a Daoguang seal mark. The first figure probably depicts Lu Zhishen "The Flower Monk", number 13 of the 36 Heavenly Spirits. The second probably depicts Yue Fei, a Song dynasty general. Both figures are connected through one person, this being Zhou Tong. A friend of Lu Zhishen and teacher of Yue Fei. Size: L:335mm / W:199mm ; 2.7Kg Provenance: Formerly in a Private Dutch collection.
