EDO PERIOD, C.1700Painted in underglaze blue with a central cartouche enclosing an elegant ho-o bird, the shochikubai (pine, prunus and bamboo) emerging from rockwork beside it; the cavetto with panels variously enclosing Chinese figures, flowering branches and further peacocks, the underside with karakusa scrolls, the base left unglazed; together with a baluster-shaped vase decorated in underglaze blue with peonies and pomegranates amongst tall grasses, the shoulder applied with small studs and handles modelled as mythical creatures with lion heads and fish tails, 34cm and 21.7cm respectively.
