KenyaKnown in the trade as "golden sheen" sapphires due to the dark brown-black body having an iridescence or sheen when viewed in the light, this carved plaque is carved in the traditional Indian style, with floral decoration. The rare golden sheen of this sapphire is now known in the trade as "Zawadi" which in Swahili means "gift from earth". The present examples are fashioned as drop-shaped carved plaques decorated in the traditional Mughal style. Suitable for mounting as ear pendants.
