Iron, ataxite (ungrouped)Ryazan district, RussiaIron, AtaxiteRyazon District, RussiaDiscovered by a Russian mushroom hunter in July of 2002, Dronino is a rare type of iron-nickel meteorite which does not exhibit a Widmanstätten pattern when etched, due to the high nickel content. Ataxites are known as ungrouped irons as they do not match the chemistry of any of the other iron-nickel groups and most certainly come from a different planetary body than the other irons. The present specimen is a shrapnel-type example with some sharp edges which are manifestations of the shearing forces as the meteorite travels through the atmosphere. There is a crevice present in the meteorite which lends visual interest. Weighing approximately 843 grams (1.85 lbs) and measuring 4 1/2 x 3 x 1 1/2 in
