NWA 10822Feldspathic BrecciaNorthwest Africa, MoroccoThe NWA 10822 Lunar meteorite was a single stone recovery that weighed only 56 grams. This Lunar was professionally cut and polished to a mirror-like finish prior to its classification in 2016. Through analysis and comparison of known lunar surface samples, NWA 10822 meteorite most likely originated on the nearside of the moon's surface. This lunar's matrix reveals a feldspathic breccia consisting of white feldspar clasts set in a dark-grey background and rare orange-brown clasts composed mainly of pyroxene. The interior consists of a mixture of fine-grained domains, large fragmental plagioclase crystals and some melt veins which may contain vesicles (gas bubbles). Analysis and classification work were performed at the University of New Mexico's Institute of Meteoritics. Here is a stunning piece from our nearest neighbor. Weighing approximately 6.88 grams and measuring 45.0 x 39.0 x 2.0mm (1 3/4 x 1 1/2 in)
