A Chinese blue satin silk 'dragon' robe, longpao, circa 1860, embroidered with couched gold thread depicting nine five-clawed dragons flying amongst clouds and auspicious symbols, the dragons eyes are embroidered with silk threads and seen chasing the pearl of immortality, original cuffs and collar are edged with original brocade adding original sleeve extenders and buttons, billowing water and waves, lishui decorate the hem line, the lishui is spaced with the blue silk ground and auspicious symbols bounce upon the billowing waves surrounding the mountains of the immortals, lined with a bright blue silk, 216cm cuff to cuff and 147cm hem to collar ?Provenance: Formerly in a private American collection formed in the 1980's and 1990's and with old Phillips lot 109 but no date given. ?Probably worn by a court Mandarin attending the ceremony at the temple of heaven when the gold would glitter against the rising sun and elevate with mandarin to immortal status.?约清1860年 蓝地缎绣金龙纹袍??
