A Chinese blue and white 'phoenix pavilion' dish, Kangxi, painted with a scene of the love rivals Dong Zhou and Lu Bu fighting over Diaochan, all within complex borders, 37cm diameter The scene depicts a couples tryst in the Phoenix Pavilion making Dong Zhuo fly into a fury. Dong Zhuo's young loyal general, Lu Bu, had been tricked into a rival love match by Wang Yun who wanted to depose Dong Zhuo. He devised a scheme where Dong Zhuo would offer to marry Lu Bu's girl friend Diaochan. When Lu Bu saw Diaochan at the Phoenix Pavilion some time later he wanted to talk to her, but Dong Zhou saw the two of them together at the Phoenix Pavilion at flew into a rage. From then on, without his right-hand man's support, Dong's power weakened and this eventually resulted in his downfall.
