Always working on paper, Miki Leal develops a very personal abstract figuration with pop and dreamlike overtones. As if they were fantasies, the scenes he creates with a refined pictorial technique are reveries of shapes and colours taken directly from the tribulations of the artist's mind. His working method uses association to find discoveries to develop with the energy, strength and versatility that characterises his painting. It could be said that he captures his personal universe through music, cinema, literature, travel and the people close to him. With a very Sevillian optimism, Miki Leal faces his task as an artist. Miki Leal (Seville, 1974) holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Seville and was recently (2016) awarded the prestigious BMW Painting Prize. In 2013 he was awarded the first Rafael Botí Biennial Prize for Fine Arts. In 2017 he received a scholarship from the Spanish Academy in Rome (Italy). In addition to dozens of group exhibitions, Leal has had solo exhibitions in Germany, Italy, the United States and the Philippines.
