JEAN-BAPTISTE HUYNH (France, 1966)."Nude XX", from the series "Nus".Photograph.Provenance: Important Spanish Collection.Size: 120 x 120 cm.In his series "Nus", Jean-Baptiste Huynh makes a study of nudes, emphasising the details of the woman's body, her sensuality, the elegance of her lines and her diversity.Self-taught, Jean-Baptiste Huynh taught himself photographic techniques, lighting and printing. His refined and timeless photographic style allows him to work on a wide variety of subjects: portraits, nudes, the mineral, plant and animal world, and spiritual symbols emblematic of large ensembles. The recurring themes of his work are the gaze, the image of the self, light, timelessness and the relationship with infinity. His photographic work is reflected in his exhibitions, his stage designs and his books, which are considered an integral part of his projects, the finished expression of his vision. Jean-Baptiste Huynh is the author of fifteen personal works. Winner of the Villa Médicis prize, he exhibits in various galleries and museums around the world. In 2002, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris presented the exhibition "Yeux", accompanied by a book of portraits of the greatest international photographers and painters by the artist. The École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris dedicated a retrospective to him in 2006, "Le Regard à l'œuvre", in which his portrait work was exhibited in the main cultural centres. From 2006 to 2012, he carried out a study of light through six series: MIROIRS (2006), CREPUSCULES (2007), FIRE (2008), MONOCHROME (2009), LOUVRE (2011) and AVEUGLES (2012), collected in the book Lumière which accompanies his solo exhibition Rémanence au Musée du Louvre, also inspired by the museum's collections. In 2016, the Musée National des Arts Asiatiques - Guimet offered Jean-Baptiste Huynh a carte blanche exhibition, which will take place in 2019. The exhibition, a retrospective of his work in Asia, is enriched with new photographs taken in the MNAAG collections between 2016 and 2018 and images from the REFLECTION series focusing on the diversity of the female face in Asia. In the same year, Jean-Baptiste Huynh exhibited at Galerie Lelong his project WOMAN, which highlights the beauty of the female face in its universality and timelessness. He accompanies this research with a series of interviews on the theme of "beauty" with personalities from various fields. In 2019, the artist will also exhibit his work at the Patrick Gutknecht Gallery in Geneva (Switzerland) and at the Museum of Multimedia Art in Moscow (Russia). In 2020, Jean-Baptiste Huynh is focusing on his new exhibition and book project, which addresses the question of aesthetics and ancestral rituals in Kenyan tribes. Jean-Baptiste Huynh's work is represented by Galerie Lelong (France), Galerie Patrick Guktnecht (Switzerland) and Galerie Camera Work (Germany).
