A RARE PAIR OF FRENCH TOLE PEINTE WALL LIGHTS A QUINQUETATTRIBUTED TO DEHARME, EARLY 19TH CENTURY Modelled as female Classical terms, possibly in the form of Dianaeach 42cm high, 14cm wide, 17cm protuberanceProvenance: Property from the estate of the late Joe Constantine. For a very similar pair, but with scarlet red ground, see Christie's, London, The English Collector, 17th May 2017, Lot 12 (£11,250). Manufacture Deharme was established in Paris in 1792. The design for this style of lights is now in the Bibliothèque Marmottan, Paris (illustrated in N. de Reynies, Le Mobilier Domestique, Paris, 1987, vol. II, p. 731, fig. 2712).There are some mild marks, scratches, knocks, and wear to surface consistent with age and use. However as is common with Tole there have been some losses and wear to edges and corners which have been retouched- current surface is dirty making it difficult to determine whether more broad repainting has been carried out.Heat and use have caused paint bubbling and lifting- it's probable that the shades have either been replaced- or have been stripped and redecorated. Some buckling to elements from use and with varying levels of wear to gilded surfaces- glass may be later but seems to be of the right form and style. Please refer to additional images for visual references to condition which forms part of this condition report. All lots are available for inspection and Condition Reports are available on request.
