λ EDWIN WHITNEY-SMITH (ENGLISH 1880-1953) A BRONZE FIGURE 'THE WAKING CHILD' DATED 1911 Pale green all over verdigris, signed and dated to the cast, no foundry mark66.5cm high, 46cm deepWhitney-Smith was born in Bath and studied art at the Bath and Bristol Schools of Art. He exhibited at The Royal Academy, the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, and at the Paris Salon. The Ferens Art Gallery, Hull, has an example of this 1911 bronze in unweathered, olive green patina and with original base.There are some marks, scratches, knocks, and wear to patinated surface consistent with age and use. The surface has weathered to a fairly even pale green patina but with spatters of white household paint and other substances. Probably formerly with base and with fixing points to the underside.
