AN ENAMELLED BRONZE FIGURE OF VAJRASATTVATMIKAChina, 20th century. The figure decorated in polychrome enamels with a dominant deep cobalt blue colour, depicting the female ”Thunderbolt Being” seated in padmasana atop a lotus base, holding a ghanta in her left hand and vajra in her right. The robe richly adorned in polychrome beaded jewellery, the hair pulled into a tall chignon behind the foliate tiara, her arms surrounded by swirling silken scarfs.Vajrasattvatmika is the female counterpart of Vajrasattva, in Tibetan Buddhism considered as one among 15 samadhi deities, who takes us away from delusion and purifies our Karma.Condition: Good condition with some wear, abrasions to the enamels, minor losses. Sealed off with a copper plate.Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above.
